Bill Brandt (1904-1983) family asleep in the underground, 1940 Gelatin silver print, printed later, signed in black ink on lower right recto, 34.5 x 30cm (13? x 12 in.), mounted. Brandt was commissioned by the Ministry of Information to document London Underground bomb shelters, and took the photographs during the week of 4-12 November 1940.IMPORTANT: This lot has been imported from outside the EU to be sold at auction under temporary importation, and therefore the buyer must pay the import VAT at a rate of 5% on the hammer price and 17.5% on the buyer's premium.
