5 volumes, 10.75” x 7.5”, published by Fisher, Son, & Co., London, and containing over 180 steel-engraved portrait plates and biographies of eminent British personages of the 19th century. Original dark blue covers are bumped and rubbed; gilt-lettered and stamped spines; marbled endpapers; a former owner’s name is stamped on a front endpaper. There is an occasional loose page, but, except for some light toning, the interior is in overall very nice condition. Some of the people included are: George III, George IV, the Duke of Wellington, Admiral Lord Nelson, William Pitt the Younger, Benjamin West, Richard Sheridan, Princess Victoria (who was heir presumptive to the throne at the time of publication), William Wordsworth, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Edmund Burke, William IV, Marquis Cornwallis, Sir Walter Scott, Admiral Earl Howe, and John-Singleton Copley. A cross section of 19th century British society. (5 volumes)
