6 vol. in 1, engraved frontispieces, engraved or lithographed vignette titles, each signed by the editor at foot and with 'five' volumes corrected to 'six' , vol.2-6 with alternate title 'The Melodies of Scotland..', engraved plates and sheets of musical notation printed on both sides, with A.L.s. from the editor to George Forbes recounting that he has written a new version of 'Johnie Cope' bound in before the song (number 253), a little foxed and browned, contemporary half calf, spine gilt, t.e.g., rubbed, joints repaired, 4to, 1838-41.

***Rare collection of Scottish songs, with words by Thomson's friend Robert Burns and accompaniments by notable composers including Beethoven and Haydn..
