first edition, 2 mounted chromolithograph plates by James Poole, title printed in red and black, 25 actual artificial flies and samples of materials for making each fly in 22 sunken mounts, foxing, upper hinge repaired, 1 extra fly and note loosely inserted, original decorative cloth, gilt, g.e., spine and corners rubbed, [Westwood & Satchell p.3], 4to, Day, 1875.

***The very rare issue with the 1875 date on the title; sometimes called the 'first issue'. However, no copies were ready for issue until 1876, and "1875" copies were not necessarily the first to be released. Beazley states that only 15-20 of these copies exist. A "sumptuous volume, for which anglers are indebted to Mr. Aldam" (Westwood & Satchell).
