presentation copy from the author, half-title, occasional light spotting, the Burrell copy with bookplate, contemporary calf, mottled in green and orange, some worming, rubbed, 8vo, Leghorn [Livorno], for Thomas Masy & Comp., 1788.

***The inscription reads "a present from the author at Naples 1794". It is presumed that it was presented to the Edward Gordon, whose bookplate is present. Rooke was on one of the ships in the British Fleet that sailed in 1781 in an abortive attempt to capture the Cape of Good Hope from the Dutch and French. He gives descriptions of Jeddah and Cairo..
