Montferrand (Auguste de) [Plans et Détails du Monument Consacré à la Memoire de l'Empereur Alexandre], 11 loose plates only, including several of the process of erecting the column in Palace Square, St Petersburg, sections and plans, alternative designs for the statue and interior view of the forge, lithographs on chine appliqué, by Bichebois and Bayot, each c.395 x 495mm., or the reverse, slight spotting to support sheets, some short tears at sheet edges, well outside images, a few plates with a dampstain lower left, none affecting image though one just into the chine paper, Paris and St Peteresburg, 1836(11)***Commissioned to commemorate the Russian victory over Napoleon during the reign of Tsar Alexander (1801-1825), it was designed and constructed by Auguste de Montferrand between 1830 and 1834. These plates illustrate this spectacular feat of engineering, involving erecting the main column, formed of a single piece of red granite over 86 feet in length and weighing 600 tons, in under 2 hours.
