Aswan Dam. a collection of papers, log book and photographs relating to the engineering and construction of the dam, from one of the surveyors, H.F. Carew-Gibson, with his manuscript log of a boat journey up the nile to conduct a preliminary survey in November and December (?1897 or 1898); corrected proof copy of the Specification of the Proposed Reservoir at Assuan, ("referred to in the contract between the Egyptian Government and Messrs. John Aird and Co."), Cairo, 1898, signed by the same; signed proof copy of Fitzmaurice and Stokes on the Nile Reservoir and Sluices, Assuan, issued by the Institution of Civil Engineers, 1903 (the year of the dam's completion), with 2 folding plates of sections, diagrams and graphs; 3 albums of Kodak Panorams, with views Cairo, Alexandria, the Nile, Port Said, and elsewhere, gelatin silver prints, each c.55 x 175mm., captioned in pencil on mounts, cloth albums, oblum 8vo; an album of mostly earlier English family interest, but also including related Egyptian views, on board ship, the construction site, protraits of colleagues and crew, similarly captioned; and a good group of larger, loose, photographs of the dam site, the Duke of Connaught laying the foundation stone, 12th February 1899, several of the construction, and the completed dam, 14 platinum prints, titled and signed by D.S.
