2 vol., first edition, first issue, vol.2 only with half-title, engraved frontispiece, titles in red and black with engraved vignette, engraved head- & tail-pieces by Cochin and pictorial initials, 155 engraved plates and plans, mostly by the author, some folding and/or double-page, errata leaf in vol.2 following preliminaries, some browning and offsetting, middle part of vol.2 lightly water-stained at upper edge, contemporary mottled calf, spines gilt in compartments with morocco labels, rubbed, a little worn at corners and spine ends, joints split, preserved in modern cloth drop-back box with morocco labels, [Berlin Kat. 2400; Cohen-de Ricci 156; Fowler 49], 4to, Paris, Charles-Antoine Jombert, 1737-38.

***The first book by Blondel who greatly influenced architecture in France, and indeed Europe in general, during the period that experienced the flourishing of the Rococo and the beginnings of Neo-Classicism. The work concerns the country house, its decoration and gardens. With the imprint for the first issue as described by Fowler, and the dedication and errata leaf, but reworked frontispiece as in the second issue..
