1867 JOHN D. HEATWOLE, ROCKINGHAM CO., VA ATTRIBUTED DECORATED SALT-GLAZED STONEWARE JAR, "2" capacity stamp, straight-side form with a flattened rim above a slight shoulder and two spaced incised rings, two applied molded shell-form handles, brushed cobalt "1867" on one side and two opposing feathered leaves on other side framing the capacity stamp, additional cobalt covering the handles. Note: A very small group of these jars with two different styles of molded handles is known, two of which are signed by Heatwole. Three jars from the group bear the same 1867 date which is the only date recorded. The "2" capacity stamp seen here has only been observed on jars from this particular group

Rim with two chips and wear, some expected restoration to both handles
