PORTRAITS OF TWO BROTHERS ATTRIBUTED TO JOSEPH GOODHUE CHANDLER (MASSACHUSETTS, 1813-1884).
Oils on canvas, unsigned. A fine pair of portraits depicting two brothers, dressed similarly, each with his dog, and both with romantic landscape background. Imperfections. 27"h. 22"w., appear to retain their original gilt frames, 33"h. 28 1/2"w. Sold at Garth's, April 1986, lot 91; ex Village Green Antiques (Michigan) and advertised in The Magazine Antiques in the early 1970s. Condition reportCondition: Both with old, wax relinings, each with scattered, minor inpainting. Canvas bears the stamp of S.N. Dodge, Oliver Street, NY.
