THE GATE OF ELLERSLIE BY ANJULENE BARNEY (EARLY 19TH CENTURY).
Watercolor on paper, titled below, signed lower right and dated 1823. An unusual painting, likely based on a print source, of a torch-bearing military unit preparing to enter a large, gated estate. Minor imperfections. 14 1/4"h. 17 5/8"w., in a period frame, 17 3/4"h. 21 3/4". Sold at Garth's, April 11, 1992, lot 271.

Anjulene Barney was reputedly a student at a North Carolina seminary.

Condition: Overall toning, some discoloration and water staining, minor marginal damage including a 1" closed tear, some scuffing to a tree on the left margin.
