FOLK ART WHIRLIGIG.
Southern, 19th century. Carved wooden figure of a soldier with polychrome paint over a grey ground and brass tacks as buttons. Wear. 16"h. on base. Ex Van Dusen/ Schuman (Michigan/CA). Selected for exhibit at the Rockefeller Center by the Museum of American Folk Art. Condition reportGarths has a copy of a 1986 loan agreement between a former owner and the Museum of American Folk Art that douments the whirligigs selection for the museum exhibition. This will be sold with the whirligig.
There are a couple of chips in the collar area on the left side and a small chip at the right front of the wooden base. There are no repairs or breaks noted & the paint appears to be original with expected wear.
