SAMPLER.
Hannah Baker, probably English, 1809, silk on wool. Working in bright gold, greens and pinks, Hannah Baker carefully noted her name and date "March 3, 1809" as well as stitching rows of the alphabet and decorative bands, including one with tiny blue and gold hearts. She surrounded the religious verse with flowing floral vine and flanked it with beribboned nosegays, birds and baskets. Minor imperfections. Conservation mounted and framed. Nineteenth century wood frame has crazed finish. 14"h. 13 ?"w.
