SCOTTISH SAMPLER.
Helen Dick, ca.1798, silk on wool. Meticulously stitched sampler has architecturally detailed manor house sitting on a raised chenille lawn and surrounded by blooming shrubs in footed urns, peacocks, tiny rabbits under pine trees, baskets and crowns. A diamond border encloses a religious verse and "Helen Dicks Aged 10 Years". Curly tendrils adorn pairs of initials, probably those of the maker's family. Good bright colors. Slight imperfections. Framed. 25 1/4"h. 28 3/4"w.

Note on back states sampler done in 1798.

Condition: The black thread has lightly migrated into the surrounding ground. Very minor thread breakage in the border.
