SAMPLER.
Probably English, ca.1800, silk on wool gauze. Signed "An Orphans gift" beneath the religious verse. Worked in tiny stitches are mirrored pairs including horn blowing angels, outlined birds, roses and baskets. Adam and Eve stand under the apple tree flanked by detailed houses. Two men in old fashioned costume are enclosed in a small cartouche entitled "Joshua & Cabel". Good colors. Slight imperfections. Framed. 18 1/2"h. 18"w.

Condition: Areas of light toning and a few tiny holes in ground.
