NEW JERSEY SAMPLER.
Frances B. Jones, Burlington County, 1817, silk on linen. The double rose vine border is typical of several Quaker schools in Burlington County. The dark leaf and vine, tied at the top, enclosing an "Extract", the pair of swans, baskets, and large realistic flowers are traditional Quaker motifs. Frances included the names of her parents, John and Elizabeth Jones as well as pairs of initials. Finely worked in blues and golds with dark lettering. Conservation mounted in old gilt frame. 25"h. 25 1/2"w. 21 3/4"h. 22"w. (unframed). Ex M. Finkel & Daughter (Pennsylvania). Condition reportCondition: Slight toning on ground.
