SCOTTISH SAMPLER.
Marion Robertson, 1834, silk on wool. Neatly stitched in colorful threads, Marion worked a classic Scottish stylized floral band at the top and filled the sampler with potted flowers, baskets, peacocks,deer and dogs and initials. The piece is dominated by the stone house with fenced garden. The whole bordered by an arcaded strawberry vine. She signed her work "Marion Robertson Aged 13 Aug 1834". Strong colors on clean ground. Slight loss. Framed. 22"h. 17"w. See Huber's Miller's Samplers, p.69, for the same house worked in different colors. Condition reportCondition: Scattered tiny holes to ground and other loss to sitiches on the house, the "t" in Robertson and on side border. The sampler has been placed on a closing matching ground fabric. Descriptions provided in both printed and on-line catalogue formats do not include condition reports.
