UNUSUAL EMPIRE CORNER CUPBOARD.
Ohio, possibly Fairfield County, ca.1840, cherry and poplar. Two-piece cupboard with two ten-pane doors in the upper section and a bowfront lower section with two drawers, with boldly turned and applied columns and carved sunbursts. Imperfections. 100"h. 57"w. 24"d., requires a 36" corner. The carved sunburst was a particularly popular motif in Fairfield County. See Hageman, Ohio Furniture Makers, v. 1, pp. 45, 47.
