LOGAN, James; and others. A manuscript deed on vellum, a tripartite agreement signed by Logan, Israel Pemberton, Thomas Griffits and Mary Norris Griffits, transferring "To the use of Mary Griffits for life" the rent charges for four properties in "Norriton," i.e. Norristown. Philadelphia: 3 September 1737. 1 p., large vellum membrane with the top edge scalloped (630 x 720 mm). Signed and sealed by each at the foot and witnessed and signed by Charles Brockden and Andrew McNare. Docketed, signed and sealed on the verso by Brockden and Abraham Taylor. Condition: minor stained and fading. The area of present day Norristown was purchased by Isaac Norris and William Trent (who subsequently sold his share back to Norris) from William Penn, Jr. in 1704. Norris subdivided the region and rented many of the plots. In conjunction with the executors of the estate of Isaac Norris (1671-1735), Logan here provides an income for the daughter of his old friend. Mary Norris, born in 1694, was Isaac's eldest daughter and was married to Thomas Griffits (alt. sp. Griffiths) in 1717. ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
