FRANKLIN, Benjamin (printer). An Account of the Treaty Held at the City of Albany in the Province of New-York, By His Excellency the Governor of that Province, and the Honourable the Commissioners for the Provinces of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania, with the Indians of the Six Nations, in October, 1745. Philadelphia: B. Franklin, 1746. 20 pp., folio (340 x 227 mm). Stitched self-wrappers, uncut. Housed in a cloth chemise and morocco backed slipcase. Condition: very minor toning at outer margins of the title, else a tall fine copy. Provenance: Frank T. Siebert (Sotheby's New York, 21 May 1999, lot 521). the siebert copy of the october 1745 treaty between the colonists and the six nations. At this conference, held in the midst of King George's War, the colonists informed the Six Nations of the capture of Louisburg by New England forces and urged them to join the British against the French. Much of the treaty is occupied by a joint speech from the representatives of New York and New England. The Pennsylvania Commissioners held a separate council with the tribes concerning the ongoing conflicts between the Six Nations and the Catawbas. This is the fourth of thirteen indian treaties printed by Benjamin Franklin, each quite rare and desirable.
