"Filadelfia" [Philadelphia, but probably Florence]: 1780. 8vo (190 x 135 mm). Contemporary orange decorated limp boards, manuscript spine label, text uncut and unopened. Condition: foxing; minor wear. Provenance: Florentine Strozzi family (inked stamp on title). a false philadelphia imprint. This work, originally published in Switzerland the year prior, compares ancient commercial empires and British North America. The work was given the false imprint no doubt to increase sales, as the attention of Europe focused on the Revolution and Philadelphia was home to the celebrated Benjamin Franklin.
