[CLARK, P.] [Schuylkill River at Gray's Ferry.] [Philadelphia: c. 1835]. Watercolor, heightened with white gouache, on paper (345 x 510 mm). Pencil attribution and title on verso. Framed. Condition: remnants of prior mounting on verso, repaired tears at edges. Provenance: Kennedy Galleries (label on verso of frame, though torn). A bucolic view on the lower Schuylkill from the perspective of the floating bridge, seen in the foreground, on the western side of the river, looking back toward Kochersperger's Hotel, the structure with the two-story veranda in the central portion of the watercolor. At the far right in the background is a large white building that appears to be the U.S. Naval Asylum, completed in 1833 by architect William Strickland.
