KENNEDY, David J. Northeast View from Broad St. and South Penn Square. Philadelphia: November 1838. Pen-and-ink, graphite, watercolor and goache, on paper (210 x 270 mm). Signed with initials and dated at the lower right. Condition: minor soiling. After the waterworks were removed, Centre Square was divided into four parts so that Broad and Market Streets could run through, and renamed Penn Square. This winter scene from a high vantage point overlooking the square shows carriage traffic on those streets. At the lower right is an image of the U.S. Mint. Regarding the artist, see "The David J.
