HOFFY, Alfred. The Artillery Corps of Philadelphia Greys, (Company D), Comd. by Capt. Geo. Cadwalader, First Regiment of Artillery, 1st Brigade, 1st Division. Philadelphia: P. S. Duval, 1845. Lithograph, hand-colored (390 x 470 mm). Framed. Provenance: Martin P. Snyder. "In the foreground Captain Cadwalader on a handsome horse gives the saber signal which is breaking his company out of column into line - to left and right units of the company are fanning out in order to come forward into the new formation. The uniform consists of light blue trousers with a red stripe, dark blue blouses, and tall shakos with red plumes. The battery has six field pieces and carriages to carry personnel. Officers ride their own mounts. The scene is set on a broad field. One of the foremost military heroes of the city, Cadwalader is seen here drilling his crack battery near Powelton on the west side of the Schuylkill" (Wainwright).
