SCOTT, Thomas M. Northern Liberties & Spring Garden Water Works. Philadelphia: P.S. Duval & Co., c. 1852. Color lithograph (480 x 650 mm). Initialled on the stone by the lithographer C. Kuchel. Framed. Provenance: Martin P. Snyder. "This one-and-a-half-story granite building is remarkable for its Egyptian-type front door and chimney. In the background to the right is a body of water with a canalboat on it. In the center foreground a man fills a bucket with water from a pump, possibly for use with his nearby horse. Completed in 1845, this engine house, located on the east bank of the Schuylkill less than a mile above Fairmount, pumped water to a reservoir a short distance to the west of Girard College. Scott personally saw to the coloring of this lithograph" (Wainwright).
