Philadelphia: c. 1869. Aquatint (450 x 555 mm). Certificate accomplished in manuscript for B.C. DuComb and, signed by the president, vice-president and secretary and dated January of 1869. Condition: tissue repairs to tears on verso, chipping with some loss to corners. Provenance: Martin P. Snyder. This aquatint depicts an unnamed fire company engaged in a firefight near Independence Hall that has engulfed the four-story building of Fores Dry Goods. The central image appears on a screen rolled out by two flanking firemen, who hold a hose and pump-handle in their other hands. Snyder MOA, 336.
