SPORTING. Sportmen's Depot Established in 1836. John Krider Gun Maker. Dealer in Fishing Tackle and all kinds of Sporting apparatus N.E. Cor. 2nd and Walnut Sts. Philadelphia Pa. [Philadelphia]: n.d. [but c. 1860s?]. Engraved advertising broadside (350 x 290 mm). Six small vignettes of waterfowl, upland game, dogs on point, shooting and angling, surrounding central device of two sportsmen in 1840s dress relaxing with their sporting dogs and rifles. Condition: slightly toned. John Krider, both as gun maker and general sporting outfitter, served the sporting gentlemen of the Philadelphia area for more than 50 years. Krider's firm became one of the most successful field sports shops on the entire east coast. His rifles were considered of particular merit, taking numerous awards over 30 years at the Franklin Institute's Exhibition of American Manufactures and the Philadelphia and New York expositions. Krider's own experiences in the field were published in 1853 as Krider's Sporting Anecdotes.
