Jimi Hendrix Album Artwork In 1982 CBS released a double live album of Hendrix entitled 'The Jimi Hendrix Concerts' (originally released on Castle Records in France) The album contains live songs from the 1968-1970 period. CBS UK commissioned 100 lithographs of this painting which was made in 1971 by famous French artist Jean Messagier. The100 lithographs were given out to the UK media as gifts to generate interest in the album. This is number 23/100. This painting was used as the album cove. The original title of the painting was 'Hommage a Jimi Hendrix'. The painting and Jean Messaagier's signature were scratched by the painter into the bottom of the original painting which is very clear on the lithograph.
