English School, Portrait of Edward Acton, 18th c.,
oil on canvas, unsigned, painted in a feigned oval, inscribed on the verso "Edward Acton" with an old paper label below reading "Born Basingstoke 1657 / Oxford Wadham Coll. 1667 at 16 / Bentworth Rectory 1677 / Married Jane Henley 1682 / Buried at Bentworth 1716 at 60." Housed in a 19th c. frame with applied composition ornament, the frame retaining two paper labels, one from the Army & Navy Stores, Ltd and with typed inscription "Adml. Sir H. Moore" and dated 31/8/49. SS 29.5" x 24.25"; DOA 38" x 32.5"
