Pictorial Silk Work, USS Cleveland, Early 20th c.,
watercolor and silk thread on silk, very intricate stitching and detail to the image of the USS Cleveland--which was launched September 28, 1901 by Baton Iron Works, Baton, Maine, and was a US Navy Denver class protected cruiser. The ship patrolled the waters of Mexico, South America, the West Indies, and Cuba; however, she also patrolled the waters from Cape Hatteras, NC to Charleston, SC and the east coast between Hampton Roads and Boston. SS 9.5" x 14", DOA 15" x 20"
From a private 30 year Americana collection, earlier provenance of M. Finkel and daughter.
