Pennsylvania German Sampler, 1801,
green silk on linen executed with very delicate stitching; motifs include Adam and Eve fully clothed with serpent entwined Tree of Knowledge between them, Joshua and Caleb carrying grapes from Canaan, top panel consisting of two-story house with stepped roof flanked by hunters with rifles and birds, overall motifs include trees, urns, and corner houses; stitched top panel reads "anno 1801, MDCCCI" (Roman Numeral date for 1801). Maker's name is indecipherable; with unusual satin stitch border. SS 17" x 17", DOA 19" x 19"
