James Kimball Harley (MD, 1828-1889), Portrait,
oil on canvas laid on masonite, half-length portrait of a gentleman, signed and dated left side slightly below center edge "J. K. Harley / 1861," housed in a period oval molded frame. Born in Canada, Harley studied in Antwerp, Belgium during the late 1840s before settling in Baltimore, MD. He spent the remainder of his life in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore area, exhibiting several portraits at the Washington Art Association in 1859. Several portraits by Harley are in the collection of the Maryland Historical Society. SS 29.5" x 24.25"; DOA 33.75" x 28.75"
