Bertha Guillaume (D.C., 19th-20th c.), Portrait,
ca. 1910, oil on canvas, signed lower right "Bertha Guillaume," purported to be a portrait of a DuPont, housed in the original ornate gilt wood frame with composition ornament. Bertha Guillaume was the daughter of Louis M. D. Guillaume, a French born and trained portraitist working in the Richmond, VA area during the later half of the 19th century. She shared his studio at the Corcoran Building from 1890-95 and was a respected art instructor and painter in her own right. SS 49.5" x 34.5"; DOA 59.5" x 44.75" The consignor's mother purchased this painting in the Wilmington, DE area during the 1940s.
