Kusakabe Kimbei (Japan, 1841 - 1934),
hand colored albumen print, "Kago Carriers and Woman", ca. 1880s. Matted in metal frame. Kimbei was an active photographer, ca. 1881 - 1912, in Yokohma and Tokyo. Learning his trade from European photographers Beato and von Stillfried, Kimbei captured poignant images of a vanishing Japan. SS: 7.75" x 10"; DOA: 14" x 18" Purchased May, 1982.
