1114: Franklin Roosevelt Autograph Letter Signed

Thirty-second President . Rare Handwritten Autograph Manuscript Signed Twice ("FDR"). 1 p, no date, on yellow paper, in pencil, Roosevelt writes a list of names of Democratic Senators and others. This single sheet is an intriguing relic from the FDR administration, containing as it does a list of names of U.S. Senators, including Key Pittman, Democratic Senator from Nevada (whose name is written and then crossed out); Kenneth Douglas McKellar, Democratic Senator from Tennessee (whose name is bracketed with Pittman's); Dennis Chavez Democratic Senator from New Mexico, whose name is followed first by a question mark and then by FDR's initials; and Guy Gillette, Democratic Senator from Iowa, whose name is followed by notes and a check mark. Present also are four other names with notes beside them possibly indicating their voting position. Senator Dennis Chavez strongly supported the New Deal legislation, and also supported Roosevelt throughout the war years. This is who FDR probably picked from this handwritten list and that is why he signed "FDR" next to Chavez's name. Page stain at lower left corner, some creasing and bumping at corners, smudging. Signed ("FDR") twice. In very good condition. Provenance: From the estate of James Roosevelt, FDR's son.
