Condition/Details: Rebound in blue cloth with bright gilt embossing to spine, this volume is a scarce history of time measurement from the earliest times, during which the first use was made of gnomons (the part of the sundial that casts the shadow), to the Renaissance. This work covers the horological history of several ancient cultures, such as those of Mexico, India, China, Egypt, Iran, Greece, Byzantium, Rome, Arabia, and Europe. This work contains a foreword by Alfred Chapuis. The work is illustrated with many photographs and drawings. The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean pages.
