Bound in three quarter leather with marbled boards, this antique volume is a unique collection of shorter works, assembled in a private binding. As was a popular pursuit of the day, an individual commissioned a bindery to create this unique collection, bound in a specific order and trimmed where needed to create a cohesive look to the volume. The included texts were most often originally published in wraps and were ensured a longer life through this process. This particular private binding volume presents a number of dramas by William Thomas Moncrieff (1794 - 1857), including his most popular production, Tom and Jerry. There are as well dramatic works by other others, a list of which is written out on the front endpaper. Several of these short works are illustrated with frontispieces depicting characters and/or scenes in the play.
