This lot features a bound early newspaper compilation. As was a popular practice during the 1800's and early twentieth century, individual newspaper issues were bound together in a single hard cover volume. The book featured in this lot contains the following issues:Title: New York Times

Notes: This large-format volume is bound in three quarter leather with marbled boards. Front board, one preliminary page, and the title page of the first issue are now detached. Spine is chipped and peeling. There are ex-library markings to front endpaper. A small number of pages have been excised (January 18 and pages 1 and 2 of January 19). March 4 - 9 are bound in reverse order. Textblock is otherwise well preserved, with clean pages. These issues contain fascinating daily reports of the then ongoing U. S. Civil War along with maps of major engagements Page 5 of January 5 issue contains the text of the second order of the Emancipation Proclamation.
