Title: The Pig: A Treatise of the Breeds, Management, Feeding, and Medical Treatment of Swine; with Directions for Salting Pork, and Curing Bacon and Hams
Author: William Youatt Publisher: Lea Y Blanchard (Philadelphia) Printing Year: 1847 Condition/Details: Bound in brown blindstamped cloth with gilt embossing to spine, this antique volume is a scarce work on farm breeding. The author formulates his objective in writing this book: "It has been his task to collect all the various brief and cursory notices which have been accorded to swine by ancient as well as modern agricultural and medical writers; to select those which were valuable and worthy of record; and then, by weaving them into the groundwork of his own ideas and experience, to bring before scattered rays into one focus, so that the eye of science may be attracted to a hitherto neglected branch, and, from contemplating, may be led to study it; and practical men may be induced to aid, by their experience, in elucidating a subject which is as yet so little understood." The work contains illustrated with many in-text engravings "drawn from life" by William Harvey. The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with age-toned pages. The book measures approximately 5.25" x 8" and contains 175 pages. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50 ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
