Title: Turning for Amateurs: Being Descriptions of the Lathe and Its Attachments and Tools, with Practical Instructions for Their Effective Use of Wood, Metal and Other Materials.
Author: unnamed author Publisher: "The Bazaar" Office (London) Printing Year: c. 1882 Condition/Details: Bound in maroon cloth with bright black embossing, this antique volume is a rare tool handbook. "Commencing with the lathe and turner's workshop, it may be said that this machine is par excellence the tool of the amateur; and of late years its capabilities have been largely developed, and many important additions made to its belongings. For the lathe is an instrument of many parts, and, with its manifold chucks and appliances, is now often made to execute work which used to require several different machines. Indeed, you may continue to add extras for years, and still find your lathe capable of further improvement." (Preface). The work is illustrated with 129 engravings. The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean pages. The book measures approximately 5.25" x 7.75" and contains 120 pages plus three pages plus a pictorial advertisement page for the Cunningham and Co. and two pages of additional advertisements. One of the preliminary pages offers advertisement for "The Bazaar, the Exchange and Mark, and the Journal of the Household" Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50 ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
