Description:Jacques Dupin sought to highlight Joan Miró's striking talent as not only an artist, but a sculptor who was able to translate three-dimensionality into many of his prints and paintings. His book, Miró as Sculptor, took a personal look into his friendship with Miró and explored his various techniques in the art of printmaking, engraving, and lithography. The lithograph created for this book is iconic of Miró's later works, with bold, black strokes that permeate the surrealist realm of red, green, and blue. On the left we see a little figure with eyes an a mouth, presumably the "sculptor" at work.
Created in 1974, this work was the only lithograph produced by Joan Miró especially for the book (of the same title) written by Jacques Dupin. Annotated H.C. (hors de commerce, or artist's proof) in pencil in the lower left margin out of the total edition of 20 prints in black and beige on Japon paper (aside from the edition of 50 printed in color on Japon paper) . Published by Ediciones Polígrafa, S.A., Barcelona and printed by La Polígrafa, S.A., Barcelona. Hand signed by Joan Miró (1893 - 1983) in pencil in the lower right margin.
