Description:Created in 1960 as part of a series of 12 color lithographs within the exhibition catalogue of Recent Works by Joan Miró for Galerie Maeght in 1953. Published by Maeght Editeur and printed on Arches vellum paper, this work is numbered 13/200 in pencil in the lower left margin and hand signed by Joan Miró (1893 - 1983) in pencil in the lower right margin.
This is a wonderful and brightly colored piece exhibiting Miró's early printing technique. Boldly executed, the balance of solid shapes and meandering details create a buzzing of activity within the piece. The bright mint-green color combined with the delicate inking of the black creates a fantastic rendition of the science of the cosmos. This is a very good impression of this scarce, early print; the large black crescent form in the upper left of the image first captures the viewer's attention and continues to lead the eye throughout the piece through curvilinear and dotted accents. Engulfed in a green background, the forms appear as though encapsulated in separate areas within the image. This wonderful piece is a visually engaging example of Miró's playful use of abstracted imagery.
