Pair of Windsor side chairs, stamped Wilder on underside of seat. Flat shaped crest rails over bamboo turned spindles and legs. Incised seat decoration. Mixed woods. One with old repair to rear of crest rail and expected wear to seat and front spindle. One with slight age cracks to seat and expected wear to seat and front spindle. Charles Santore, The Windsor Style in America, lists a J.P. Wilder working New Ipswich, New Hampshire, 1813-1835. There was also a Wilder family chair makers of Cocke County, TN and a J. Wilder, chair maker, in Greene County, TN. One chair measures 33 3/4" height and the other 33 1/4" height. Circa 1825.
