Tennessee cobalt decorated stoneware cream pot with salt glaze, attributed to Charles Decker. The style and three petal decoration is typical of his work. Charles Decker ( b. 1832) was born in Germany and immigrated to America with his family in the 1840's. He worked at the Remmey Pottery in Philadelphia and eventually established the Keystone Pottery in Philadelphia in 1857. Sometime after 1869, he moved to Abingdon, Virginia and in 1870 established a shop with his son Charles F. Decker, Jr. The family subsequently moved to Washington County, Tennessee sometime in 1871. Condition - Overall very good condition with chips to exterior of rim and a few firing flaws in the body. 7 6/8" height. 19th century.
