Cabinet Size Photo Mounted on Card Stock depicting the last Comanche Chief Quanah Parker and two of his wives, Topay and Chonie. Photograph by William E. Irwin with imprint of "Irwin, Chickasha Ind. Territory". In pencil on verso, "Chief Quanah Parker with two of his wives". Parker was the last chief of the Comanches who never lost a battle with the white man. He eventually surrendered and was relocated to Indian Territory in Oklahoma. Irwin, a photographer active in Chickasha, Indian Territory in the 1890s and early-1900s, documented the Chiricahua Apache, Comanche, and Kiowa who lived near Anadarko, Indian Territory and Fort Sill. Excellent condition. Late 19th century.
