84. Incredible album of 50 original on-set oversize photographs by Coburn from Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. (Universal, 1963) The custom album is bound in red cloth with hand-painted "The Birds" logo, beneath which is stenciled "Photography by" (missing the letter "t") and "Coburn" painted by hand. Each album page features two 10 ½ in. x 13 in. photographs (mounted back to back) on heavy stock board and bound into the album with linen. The photographs range from individual portraits of the various stars, including, Tippi Hedren, Rod Taylor, Suzanne Pleshette, Jessica Tandy and Veronica Cartwright—some being from many of the frightening scenes of the film, replete with bird attacks. Some of the most interesting shots are the numerous rare behind-the-scenes photographs taken of Alfred Hitchcock directing and fraternizing with members of the cast while on location filming this horror classic. Photographer Robert Coburn's work was so crisp and vivid that many regard him as making many of the finest Hollywood prints after 1950. We have never encountered such an album from an Alfred Hitchcock film. One of a kind. Very good condition, with minor emulsion chipping to the upper edges on some of the photographs. $3,000 - $5,000
