87. First Swedish Edition of J.R.R. Tolkien's Hompen Eller En Resa Dit Och Tillbaksigen [The Hobbit]. Kooperativa Förbundets Bokförlag, Stockholm, (1947). Octavo, 269 pages. Pictorial paper covered boards over bright red cloth spine lettered with runic symbols. Inscribed on the verso of the front free endpaper: "To M.E. Griffiths, from J.R.R.T.". M.E. Griffiths, or Elaine, was dubbed by Tolkien "The queen of the Hobbits" for she was the woman responsible for taking The Hobbit to the publisher as Tolkien did not think it would get published. This Swedish edition preceded the American Edition. Shows only a touch of rubbing at corners, else a near fine copy. A very rare book to find inscribed. $2,000 - $3,000
