Original dark green embossed cloth with title in gilt on front board and spine. First edition in book form with presentation inscription: "To Pinnie, from H. G." on the half-title. A satire on the limitations of local and national boundaries based on the story of two scientists who discover a substance ('Herakleophorbia') which stimulates growth by six or seven time the norm. The story first appeared in Pearson's Magazine. Trace of sunning to spine cloth, otherwise a fine copy. Hinges are sound. Corners are crisp and unbumped. $3,000 - $5,000
