228. Producer Mervyn LeRoy letter announcing the release of the film The Wizard of Oz in 1939. (MGM, 1939) This rare one-page letter is written on beautiful, illustrated full-color "The Wizard of Oz" production letterhead stationery. Dated March 23, 1939, Producer Mervyn LeRoy writes to MGM executive, Al Lichtman, concerning the projected release of The Wizard of Oz "around the first of September". Signed, "Mervyn" in ink at the close. The letterhead is extremely rare, stating above The Wizard of Oz title, "Oh, what delights await you! Music and drama and laughter. The Greatest Magic Film Ever to be Made." Beneath the title is a sepia-tone photograph of Judy Garland, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley and Ray Bolger. Along the left and lower margins is printed art depicting the beloved characters of "The Scarecrow", "The Tin Woodman", "Dorothy", "Glinda", "The Cowardly Lion" and "The Wicked Witch".
