(NBC-TV, 1969) Freddy the Flute is not really a prop, rather, he is one of the central characters in this highly successful and psychedelic Sid & Marty Krofft television show. The prop flute measures 11 ˝ in. long and is constructed of PVC pipe, painted black and then wrapped in a gold painted vinyl resembling leather. He is then adorned with gold ribbon around the top and bottom with eyes, nose and mouth features. Faux jewels are affixed strategically all over the flute. In the storyline, Jimmy (played by Jack Wild) and his friend, a talking flute named Freddy, were lured to Living Island by the wicked witch, Witchiepoo, who, show and after show, tries to steal Freddy to no avail. This Freddy is the prop that was held by Jack Wild and used whenever Freddy was not talking. For the talking scenes, a different Freddy—a rod puppet surrounded by latex was used. This Freddy came from H.R. Pufnstuf co-creator and producer, Marty Krofft, who loaned it to Planet Hollywood in 1996. Following the exhibit, Freddy was given to the present consignor. Comes with a matte board with a promotional mini poster for Pufnstuf Zaps the World signed by both Sid and Marty Krofft. Of particular note, this Freddy prop is pictured and discussed on page 57 of the 1998 book by David Martindale entitled Pufnstuf & Other Stuff. An incredible key prop from this milestone children's show from the late 60s. $12,000 - $15,000 ImagesClick on thumbnails to see larger images:
